Getting the conditions just right before tasting:
- It is very important to make sure that you have a clean palate, free from toothpaste and any other strong foods or drinks. It is recommended not to drink coffee before a tasting.
- It is also highly recommended not to use strongly scented products. As the nose plays a big role in tasting wine, you don’t want to be wearing any strong perfume or aftershave.
- The ideal tasting environment will be a big, bright space with good lighting for judging the wines appearance.
You will need the right glassware. It should be odourless, colourless, transparent and free from any detergent or fluff from polishing cloths. We recommend the ISO glass. It is a standard tasting glass with a rounded bowl, for swirling the wine to release aromas and inward sloping walls, which capture these aromas at the top of the glass.
